Alan Scally Road Relays,
Saturday 29th October 2016
On a mild Autumn day, clubs from across Scotland gathered to race around the roads of Mount Vernon. Starting and finishing in Barrachnie Park, runners set of at 2pm for a 4.8 mile course. Being the Scottish University Championships, there was a lot of young blood to compete with!
First off for the teams was Andy Bonner(27.13), David Sawyer(30.20) and Sheila Lewis (32.13).
Second leg was Ted Gourley (29.13), Neal Gibson( 32.26) and Yvonne McNairn (33.09).
Third (and final for the ladies) leg was Luke Chamberlain (28.45), Michael Hampson(31.39) and Jill Smylie(31.48).
Fourth leg (men’s teams only) was Jason Steele(30.34) and Malcolm Briggs(36.00).
The ladies kept a consistent 4th place throughout the race, narrowly missing a bronze medal. Pesky university “children” and their young blood.
The Men’s A team was brought home by Jason Steele in a hard fought 11th place.
The Men’s B team was brought home by Malcolm Briggs in 18th place. An impressive result by a team plagued by recent injuries and delighted by new babies!
Alan Stewart was our trusty race photographer and got some fantastic action shots of our runners.
A great day out, with the usual Giffnock North camaraderie and support. Well done to all involved.
