We start with a message from Helen Nairne, Parent and Junior & Main Committee Member

Giffnock has gone from strength to strength in recent years and has grown exponentially across all age groups. This growth is supported by the dedication and hard work of numerous volunteers who give up countless hours coaching, managing teams, fundraising, organising events, the list goes on and on……….  But we want the club to get better and bigger still to support the ongoing interest in Athletics.  So we are asking for your help. We need coaches, committee members, parent helpers to support training sessions and social events.  Any help is gratefully received, whether that be a few hours a week or one off assistance with specific tasks or activities.  If you have any spare time and are interested in learning more about coaching or officiating then please contact Chris Marsh (christophermarsh1@hotmail.co.uk).  And if you have an interest in helping with other events, committees or fundraising then please contact Helen Nairne (helen.nairne@yahoo.co.uk). Both Chris and Helen will be at the club championships so if you have any questions or are interested in helping out then please speak with them and they can let you know more.

For those not familiar with the venue it is   Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock  The address is  Queen’s Drive, Kilmarnock KA1 3XF · 01563 555227.  We are hoping for favourable weather but the Facility is great and offers Indoor area for warm up and shelter. Forecast looks reasonable but there is limited outdoor shelter if wet so bring your brollies and /or your tents and/or Sun hats.

There is a good sized Car Park but Staff at the Arena advise as follows:

Parking: The main arena carpark(at the bottom of the drive) will be open, spaces tend to fill up quickly while events are on so we suggest people arrive early. Scott Ellis car park(which is at the other side of the bridge in the arena) is used for overspill. The main gates to the arena will be coned off to ensure no illegal parking and to keep a clear access route for the track/arena for emergency vehicles.

Catering: Great catering on offer thanks to our dedicated team of helpers with Lisa Saxby in charge and kind donations

Timetable :  Events commence at 10.00am

Athletes can arrive for warm up from 9.00am

Detailed  timetable will be issued with Programme for the day but the expectation is that most athletes will be involved from 10.00am to the conclusion of their events and that you will come to support your fellow athletes over the day. If you require that detail in preparation for the day ask your coach. The timetable is designed to let all athletes compete in their chosen events, but it is complex and so may be subject to change as required so keep an ear out for Dudley’s announcements.

Declarations: Will be open from just after 9.00am or as soon as we can access the Building. Competition numbers will be worn front and back except for Field events.  Parents can collect numbers for Under 11s so they can start their warm up

Arrangements for Under 11s: Anne Wylie & Catriona Lockie [with assistance ] will lead the warm up for Under 11 Athletes

Meet with them on the track at 9.15am where we will sort out the pools for  athletes . There are so many U11s &U13 Girls  that  2 pools will operate to ensure the day goes as smoothly as we can manage

Sponsorship : We have received some sponsorship via parents this year from Minuteman Press, and Architects ,Ink Design and printing also from Mckay & Inglis .  We will also have our Club Tents on display including the new one provided by Albert Bartlett via another parent.  Grateful thanks to them!! It’s not too late to make further  offers. The Championships are costly to organise in terms of Facility hire, First Aid & etc and as you will appreciate we have organised it as a permitted event under Scottish Athletics which limits our income from Entry fees.  We hope therefore ,that you will support the event , and purchase the Programme for the day. Any additional donations  are more than welcome.

Club Kit : Kit will be on sale on the day with Michael for Migo Sports in attendance and assisted by Lynda Scott and Pamela Wilson.  Xmas presents can be ordered .It is not required that athletes  wear club kit on the day, unlike at other  competitions , Championships or Open Graded events where it is compulsory when representing the club.
