A total of six Giffnock athletes headed south to Sheffield at the weekend for the England Athletics u15/u17/u20 Championships. There were some excellent performances and two were rewarded with medals.
Alessandro Schenini was again in fine form in the u17 men’s long jump where he jumped 6.95m to take Gold.
Much was anticipated of Erin Wallace in the u17 women’s 800m following her recent British record. After cruising through the heats, Erin was unable to hold off Isabelle Boffey (Enfield & Harringay) and Tilly Simpson (Hallamshire Harriers) in the final, coming through to take the bronze medal in a time of 2.09.70.
u20 Jenna Wrisberg put together a consistently quick series of races in the 60m having to race a heat, semi and final all on the same day. Her times were 7.62. 7.63 and 7.64 in the final. Jenna finished in 5th place, her time in the heat shaving a further two hundredths of her own club record.
u20 High jumpers Chris Mackay (1.95m) and David Lambie (1.90m) were pegged to fourth and eighth places respectively in a strong high jump competition which was won by Rory Dwyer of Straford Upon Avon AC with a final clearance of 2.12m.
u15 Reuben Nairne gained invaluable experience racing in a very competitive 60m hurdles event , but unfortunately failed to make the final.
Congratulations and thanks to all who made the trip to Sheffield to fly the flag for Giffnock North AAC.
