It was  a roll call of Team medals and Individual successes at the Renfrewshire XC Championships on Saturday 14th of November. This took place on one of the more scenic courses of the year.

[well excluding the Great Edinburgh XC on January 9th in Holyrood Park where District selection  for the Scottish Inter Districts Championships for U15/17/Senior athletes means competing on the same day as the International event . Road Races in the park are however open to all. Online entry]

At Gourock, the wind and rain even abated enough to allow the great views over the Firth of Clyde! The athletes were not diverted by this however, as they took to the hills and mud on this lofty course high above the town.

The U11’s, both Boys and Girls, made for a great start with 22 athletes taking  both Team titles. Gordon Wylie, a convincing winner in 1st Place, led Aaron McGillivray in 2nd Place and Reuben MacDonald in 4th to the first victory of the day. In the girls race, Erin Ward also triumphed and was first home to take the Gold medal with Eva Chong in 2nd and Isla Scott in 4th – an exact replica of boys result.

U 13 Boys took Silver Team place with Harris Paterson, Murray Fotheringham & Christopher Watson SweeneyU13 Girls took Team Gold with Helen Chong [2nd], Isla Ward [4th] and Kate Richardson [5th]

U15 boys took Bronze with Ben Shaw, Andrew Robertson and Eoghan O’DonnellU15 Girls with Heather Barnes [1st], Lynn McKenna [3rd] and sister Charlotte in 5th taking Team Gold.

U17 Women with Erin Wallace, on another roll, was 1st leading Danielle Kelly [3rd] and Lucy Meehan took Team Gold. U17 Men No team prize but Oliver Watson Sweeney was 5th and Nikolai Gajic was 7th.

Mention must be made however of all the Club Athletes taking part , some for the first time over XC . They all contribute to the great team spirit which Giffnock coaches , parents and helpers are pleased to be part of . With the kind of  attitude and determination on show on Saturday they can continue to train hard and look forward to future success too. Full results at link below on Kilbarchan site.
