Winning jump at the BUCS

Champion season for Giffnock High Jump Star.

Report from Ken Allan ,Coach

“Nikki Manson has completed a rare championship treble during the 2016 Indoor Season. She started off by winning the Scottish Universities Championships with a leap of 1.75m, which retained her title from last year.  Another GNAAC athlete, Catherine Palmer, in her first year at University came second, fighting off a strong challenge from experienced VPCOG athlete Hazel Jamieson. Nikki followed this victory with her first ever Scottish Senior title, with a leap of 1.76 to see off a strong challenge from south of the border. Last but not least, Nikki completed her treble by winning the British University Championships (BUCS) at Sheffield. She needed a first time clearance of 1.75m to see off two strong English athletes at 1.72m.  These performances earned Nikki an invite to the prestigious British Seniors (& World Indoor Trials) also at Sheffield, where she came a highly credible 6th behind some world leading athletes

David Smith At Scottish and British Championships

Nikki’s great jumping follows in the wake of David Smith’s continued success, which despite not feeling in the best form, brought him 2nd place with 2.20m at the Scottish Senior Championships and a 4th place with 2.22m at the British Seniors, where the opposition were of such quality that the top 2 gained selection by GB for the World Indoor Champs in Portland, USA.  It was great to see the yellow & blue Giffnock vests being displayed so prominently on both National and International stage. As long term coach to both athletes, I am proud to be associated with these young stars. “

Well done to Nikki and David from Giffnock North! And also to Ken for his coaching and the Report!
