Saturday Scottish Masters Championships

7 athletes turned out for the Scottish Masters XC Championships  at Kilmarnock.

In the women’s event first home was Allison Simpson 13th F40. Next was Anne Williams 16th F50 followed by Terry Nimmo in 17th F50. This was Terry’s first ever cross-country race. Well done.

In the men’s event Scottish Masters Internationalist Chris Greenhalgh romped home to take 7th M40 followed by another Scottish Masters Internationalist Ted Gourlay 8th M50. Next from the club was Colin Wylie 37th M40 followed by Michael Hampson 36th M50.

While Terry headed home for the ice pack, Allison, Ted and Michael headed home for a good nights sleep and to prepare for the next race only 24hours later.

RRR2015.9In the senior women’s event first home was Debi Scott 7th 32.43 (PB) followed by Sheila Lewis 8th 32.52 (PB) then Allison Simpson 9th 33.10 Both Sheila and Allison picked up silver and bronze place Masters prizes respectively. The ladies displayed good packing to take the Gold in the team event.

In the senior men’s event, Luke Traynor romped home to 2nd place in a personal best time of 24.06 only 22 seconds behind the winner Great Britain internationalist and Commonwealth Games marathon runner Derek Hawkins. Luke said ‘ I am delighted that Derek showed up today this helped pull me to a fast time’. Luke is progressing well with each season and this performance bodes well for a sub 30-minute 10k this summer.

Next home for the senior men was Dave Sawyer 22nd 28.09. Dave picked up silver in the M40 age group. Luke Chamberlain 33rd 29.17, Ted Gourlay 35th 29.40. Ted took the silver for M50 age group. Next was Chris Marsh 38th 30.21 (just back from a bad cold) Jason Steele 43rd 30.44, Neal Gibson 44th 30.51 and Michael Hampson 59th 34.28

Allison, Ted and Michael all raced on Saturday so were relatively pleased with their performance.

So that was 6 medals in total for the Senior Gigg Gaffers.

This was the first race of the hotly contested Senior Club Championships.
