Team Giffnock
Silver Medal Winners
Report by Gerry Duggan and Team Managers

Giffnock North’s Under 12 athletes had a superb day at the Superteam events at Grangemouth. The competition is a mini- combined events with each athlete competing in Long Jump, Shot Putt, 100m and 4x100m, gaining points for their team. Personal bests were tumbling all afternoon and the day was topped off with the Girls A Team winning Silver. While the Girls A came home with silverware all the other teams should be tremendously proud of their achievements. The Boys C team put in a herculean performance with only 3 instead of 4 people able to score points. The Girls C team finished 20th (out of 50 teams), beating many B teams and the Girls B team were 13th. The Boys A team were 7th and the Boys B team were 14th. We think that both the Girls and Boys B teams were the top placed B team, but will confirm when the official results come out.
The effort and commitment of our athletes was matched by our volunteer team managers for the day, who shepherded everyone round the events (and didn’t lose anyone!). For the Girls A, B and C teams thanks to Garry Sturgeon, Geri O’Neil and Grace Greene. For the Boys A, B, C teams thanks go to Gayle McPherson, Anne Wylie and Linda Scott.
Thanks also go out to our athlete’s Mum’s/Dad’s and (Grannies too) who all got up early, got the teams to Grangemouth on time, cheered and shouted all the Giffnock performances and even helped the officials to correct the results!
Each team kept a record of their day. Here are their reports
Girls A
Team A girls made up of Lara Sturgeon (me!) , Mary Rose Cairns, Anna Jenkins and Hannah Coles. We competed in Shot putt, 100m, 4x100m relay and long jump. In 100m Mary Rose got a PB of 14.47s and I got a PB in long jump of 3.82m. We won our relay and got 3 firsts and 1 second in our 100m heats. It was long day and we are all very tired. But it was worth the wait when we found out that we came second! We got our medals and we are all very proud and had a great day at Superteams.

Girls B
On the 20th of June, six Giffnock North teams, Girls A, Boys A, Girls B etc. went down to Grangemouth Stadium to compete in the Supterteams Outdoor Championship. I (Abbie Linden) was in the Girls B team, along with Isla Scott, Erin Fraser and Imogen Maher..We competed in long jump first, where Erin jumped the furthest with an amazing distance of 3.50m, which is 26cm longer than her jump at the trials. Next was shot putt and in this event I threw a PB with 4.69m. The star of the 100m though, was Isla. She ran a flying time of 15.27 seconds! Our final event was the relay, which was closely fought and Imogen helped carry the team to victory with her great third leg (her other two aren’t bad either!).Overall the team came 13th out of the 50 other girls teams which was a great team effort.

My highlight of the day though was our extended games of hidey-tig where we hid from my mum Geri Linden, our poor team manager! I’m sure Usain Bolt never gets up to such high jinks between events….

Girls C
Rosie Ferguson, Lyndsay Martin, Amy Greene & Hannah Dougall
All girls performed really well today at the Super team’s event at Grangemouth Stadium. They all got off to a flying start first thing this morning doing the 100m sprint. The 4x100m relay followed with the girls taking third place within their heat. All girls achieved PB’s whilst doing the Long Jump, with them all jumping over 3m each. Final event of the day for this team was the shot putt with all girls throwing superbly. It was first time for Lyndsay and Amy. It was a long day for us all but we all enjoyed the experience.

Boys A Team Report
Giffnock North Boys A team (Nathen Tallen, Mark McCabe, Michale Foley-Mpherson and Clark Marshall) had a great day at Grangemouth U12s Super Teams Championship. The day started brilliantly with PBs in the shot putt for all of four of them. Another couple of PBs followed in the 100m sprint and then the boys powered round to win the relay, but not without incident! We had a scary moment at changeover 1 with Mark doing a pirouette, all to ensure he didn’t drop the baton and we still won. Last event of the day was long jump and again a couple of boys made PBs. The boys finished 7th out of 47 and had a really fun day. Gayle McPherson was very proud of them in her role as A Team Manager for the first time.

Boys B Team Report
The boys B team at the Superteams competition on 20/6/15 comprised Liam Duggan, Lewis Wilson, Jamie Green and Gordon Wylie. The boys in this team are all U11 so were competing against many boys a year older. They got off to a great start in the shot putt with 3 of the boys achieving PBs. In the 100m all 4 boys ran quicker than they did to qualify for the event. The team performed particularly well in the relay, having practised hard baton changing before the event! The final event of the day was long jump. This came after a 2 hour break playing tig and it’s a wonder the boys were fit to jump at all but again they all performed very well. They all worked hard and had fun and supported each other as a team all day and were a credit to themselves and the club.
