Rachel’s success in the Long Jump in Samoa at the Youth Commonwealth Games ,along with her 5 other YCG team members  recognised at Scottish Athletics Awards Night on Saturday 31st October. The evening was compered by Bryan Burnett and the star turn was Steve Cram. The club was nominated and shortlisted in just one category this year -as Off Track Club of the Year .We were not successful on this occasion  but the representatives present from the Club hope to change that for 2016 .

Elsewhere Luke Traynor was  a great 3rd in the  Race and also 3rd counter for a successful Team from his Tulsa University base in Oklahoma competing at one of the main American Universities XC Competitions in South Carolina . The event was shown live and can still be viewed on the following link

Dudley has also drawn our attention to the  Awards Ceremony  which sees the first 16 athletes in each race getting a medal and the Coaches of the successful team  picking up a trophy too – all in brilliant sunshine on a grassy course.

Athletes from the Club made the trip east to Lasswade .  In the Under 11 Girls race Erin Ward was individual 2nd place and the  Under 11 girls  Team with Nuala O’Donnell and Lauren McCheyne were 2nd Team. Aaron McGillivray in the U11 Boys race just missed out on a medal and Adam and Alex Chamberlain, 1st year U 11s will be back next year to contest this.

Meanwhile on Friday night, representatives of the club attended the GAA [Glasgow Athletics Association] AGM . The major point of interest for the club was a discussion regarding Team Glasgow -the composite of which Giffnock is a part -and the options for our U17 and U20 Athletes to have access to Higher Level  Competition at a British level . A  Discussion Paper /Report will be circulated to all the constituent clubs.

 

On Saturday, Helen Nairne, Colin Saxby and Chris Marsh CTO  were representing Giffnock North at the Scottish Athletics Club Leaders Conference where discussions on Club Governance and  Club Development were held.

A busy weekend all round  for athletes training at the  Saturday GAA endurance session, Sprinters and Distance athletes alike  at Sunday training sessions at Rouken Glen ,Club Runners at the South Side 6 on and Coaches  Parents and Club officials too.
