Chris Bennett at Junior Awards Night

Great night with Chris Bennett  at the Giffnock  Young Athletes Awards Night.

Certificates were presented by Chris Bennett , Scotland’s Rio Olympian Hammer Thrower to all our young  athletes who represented  the club over Cross Country so far this season and also for those  participating in the Star Track event organised at the Emirates and repeated at Hutchesons track recently . A fantastic array of future talent on display . Well done to all the athletes .

Club  Championship Track & Field medals were presented to Under 11 Girls : Angelika Mayer (1st) Josie Reilly (2nd) and Eliza Turner (3rd)  and to Daniel Martin (1st) , Connor Boyle (2nd) and Euan Thomson (3rd) were sadly not able to attend.

The main Awards were then presented for Under 11 Female and Male Athlete of the year 2016 and claimed this year by Angelika Mayer and Daniel Martin.

A special award for Sportsmanship was also presented by Chris to the Under 11 Girls [all 19 of them who cheered their fellow athlete Aliah Afzal to the line] on the day of the Club Championships. Aliah ‘s father Asim , Club coach with U11s had suggested this award after being moved , along with all those watching, at the conclusion of the Girls 600m race.

The young athletes listened attentively to Chris outlining his  journey from U11 to the Rio Olympics and highlighted his main advice-  to believe in yourself and to enjoy your sport  as he has done.

Chris  then patiently entertained a long queue of athletes anxious to have him sign their certificates  before making his moves on the dance floor .

Thanks Chris for a great input to the success of our Junior Awards Night.
