The 2021 Club Awards night ( a limited event on this occasion ) was held on Friday 29th April at Whitecraigs Rugby Club.
There will be a full joint Seniors & Juniors Awards night planned for this November/ December when the achievements of the 2022 season will be recognised. We hope to award at that point all the Junior Age Group athletes of the year, Senior endurance awards, Senior Track & Field and the additional awards for outstanding performances.
On Friday we had the 2021 Club Champs Awards, National Title Winners and also recognised those athletes who had gained GB selection in 2021 – Alyson Bell, Erin Wallace, Hamish Armitt, Neil Gourley & Reuben Nairne.
We were privileged to have 4 of that number present and extremely privileged to have Erin Wallace to present the Awards. Readers should know that Erin had only arrived back from a training camp in South Africa that afternoon! Commitment indeed. This was nearly matched by Hamish managing to make it on crutches- following a fracture . He is in the midst of rehab and hopes to be training again soon. Dudley Walker did his excellent MC role and highlighting his research into aspects of all the GB athletes. It’s a great tradition to have Dudley’s inimitable presentation on these occasions. Some award winners were not able to attend as competing at the British University & Colleges Champs or in the case of Allie Chong at Scottish 10,000m Championships.
We were also treated to an inspiring message from Neil Gourley by video all the way from Arizona. He wished the athletes well for this outdoor season. He described how he keeps up with all the successes in the club – David Smith’s HJ senior Title , Murray Fotheringham’s combined events progress as well as noting this year’s outstanding XC & Road success for junior teams.
We hope that, although it was a limited event, it was nevertheless enjoyed. Grateful thanks go to Bernie Campbell for essential Technical expertise, to Graham Dunn for the photographic services, to the Junior Committe for all their input with Lynda Scott , Caroline Hunter & Alison Watson aided by Catriona Dick collating the raffle of the kit generously provided by Neil Gourley and getting the buffet sorted. To Anne Stewart for arranging the new wooden medals , made by her son & very kindly also donated by Anne. Thanks also to Ronnie Gourley for his support, and to Whitecraigs Rugby Club for the use of the facility & the bar staff on the night. Lastly, thanks go to all the athletes, parents and supporters for all that goes with training competing, performing and achieving.
The Raffle raised over £700 for Ukraine. Thanks to everyone for their donations
