DR. IAIN C KERR (1946 – 2016)
Doctor Iain Kerr sadly passed away on 13/5/16, after a short battle against cancer. Iain was an active participant in athletics since school and carried on his pursuit of improving as an athlete through University and then as a member of Bellahouston Harriers. After competing for Bella through the years, Iain wound down by tackling longer distance running and was the driving force behind a running group which formed called the Eastwood Toll Group. These weekly sessions were interspersed with tackling marathon and ultra distances runs.
Around 1987 Iain joined Giffnock North and was a popular figure at Thursday training and Sunday distance sessions. Always able to be humerous many GN members will remember Iain for his athletic ability and ready wit. In the late eighties and early nineties Iain was always in the GN first team in the Alloa to Bishopbriggs Vets road relay and was always a keen supporter of those who took part, whether first home or last to finish.
A regular attendee at club AGM’s, Ian took an interest in the club and was awarded several trophies over the years for his commitment to the club, enthusiasm, and support in all areas of club life.
In latter years, when Iain found he had an irregular heartbeat he took this as a signal to wind down his running and replaced it with social cycling and walking. Although this brought Iain’s resignation from the club, he is constantly remembered by those members who ran with him, particularly when reminiscing about GN, and he was always a popular figure in Giffnock, through his career as a family doctor.
He will be missed but never forgotten by his many friends and fellow runners at Giffnock North
