Giffnock took the 2 Superteams Titles today and also had two of its other teams in the top 5 at the Emirates
Girls were 1st and 5th while the boys were 1st and 4th.
Boys A Team was Finlay Hamilton, Paul Rolfe , Cory McConville &Logan McNulty
Boys B Team was Ayden Beard, Austin Summerhill, Zac Hollyman & Adam Tortolano .
Girls A Team was Eva McGrory, Audrey McGuire , Orla Yeates & Eilidh Brown
Girls B Team was Bethany McNeill, Megan Jackson, Katie Heron & Erin Lough.
Outstanding athletics performances from all these young athletes but we were also impressed with their team spirit, camaraderie and overall excellent behaviour all day.
The day started early with everyone arriving for an early 8.30 am start and that included the Team Managers – Rachel Callan & Murray Fotheringham – dedicated volunteers – as both were just a little bit tired after competing at the Senior Champs yesterday Mark Hamilton ,dad to Finlay, also helped with the team managing duties.
The athletes in the Superteams all do 4 events with Shot Putt, Long Jump ,60m and a 4x200m Relay. To have 2 Girls & 2 Boys Teams and to have them all in the top 5 at this competition is quite outstanding we believe.
The competition straddles U11s and U13s (1st Year) and is a great introduction to the multi events format attracting clubs from near and far. Our girls understood the advantage we have as a local club with some Teams such as from Banchory Stonehaven having to leave at 5.30am and those from Peterhead even earlier.
The event organisation was superb and despite a few technical issues ran very smoothly – to the enjoyment of all particularly, when the result was teams on the podium and selection for the DNA Kids event preceding the International Athletics competition at the Emirates on the 5th Feb!
This event features mixed teams of Boys & Girls .
Our teams had the fastest relay times of the day and were inspirational to watch .
At this point we must acknowledge that the strength and depth at this level in the club is significant as although COVID meant we had to select from a wide pool of athletes, they still ensured their place on the podium and in the top 5 rankings. With smiles all round the accepted the Superteams Trophies . Many thanks to all the officials, event organisers and for welcome support from parents & all the coaches involved at U11&U13s .
Bethany McNeill was given the 1st shot of the Superteams Trophy by her teammates as, although competing in the B Team, sge scored 5th highest girl overall in the individual events.
