Lock Down-Under News from Grant Muir

Club members, some anyway, may have been surprised to see the name of Grant Muir featuring near the top of the Scottish Athletics Leaderboard for the recent Virtual Mile.

Grant – an outstanding athlete* and contemporary, club-mate, school-mate and friend of Neil Gourley, is currently in Australia. He sent us this recent update from his base there.

“It’s been a strange year so far hasn’t it! That being said I’m working well as a physiotherapist and my employment hasn’t been affected, thankfully. I’m still in Australia and have been given permanent residency. I’m committed to staying until I feel like I want to come home for good! Though I was planning to come home for a month in June, this will be postponed.
I had a good season last year running 1.49 multiple times and ran a 3.46 recently. My highlight was probably winning the Victorian Senior 800m in March. This was a nice set up for the Australian Champs, which unfortunately were cancelled due to COVID-19.
As for the Virtual Mile run itself, the trail was beautiful. But unfortunately everyone else had the same idea as me! I can only compare it to Parkrun, where you’re constantly bobbing and weaving around prams and doggies haha! There were thankfully no casualties.
Hope you are all well, I’m still proud to represent Giffnock North”
Thanks, Grant, always good to hear from you, and we are all delighted to know that you’re sporting the Blue and Amber in Australia. Here’s to many more g’days for you on track and trail. Check out Grant’s Pof10 Profile:
