The Club Track and Field Championships 2017 returned to the Ayrshire Athletics arena in Kilmarnock. The weather was more than kind to us with a still, dry calm day with the sun even shining at times.
The athletes performed over a range of events , some competing for the first time , some outwith their comfort zone and some producing unexpected great performances. All seemed to enjoy the competition . Although we had more limited numbers in certain age groups , we were still impressed with the numbers taking part in an event which brings Club athletes together from age 9 to Masters .
The superb officials, organised by Doleen Galbraith and Anne Stewart, engaged our own, many from other clubs , traveling from far and near who together with many of our coaches and parent helpers kept us on track and mostly on time. The official Photo Finish Team was augmented on the day by our own Chris Marshall and Jamie Alexander. The Results team led by the irrepressible Mike Napthine with Elaine Paul , Lorraine Morran , Wendy Lipp and Louise Paterson reckoned with our new performance based scoring system devised at considerable effort by Graham Dunn and based on the SATs scoring tables. Stuck inside throughout the day they were able to display the individual event results in great time. The timetable was re- arranged by Anne Stewart and we were delighted to have her present for the day after a long period of injury and illness. The ace catering team led by Lisa Saxby with Pia Kirkpatrick, Nikki Molloy, Diana Davidson and Alison Currie were on hand to keep everyone supplied with hot drinks, sandwiches and excellent home baking very generously provided by club parents and supporters .
Our Fundraising and kit sales team with Lynda Scott, Tracey Davie , Alison Watson ,Tina McLellan, and Claire McInnes sold kit and programmes and tombola tickets throughout the day. Tracey and son Ryan who was disappointed not to be competing due to a clash with his last ever Cubs Camp, singlehandedly raised all the prizes for the Programme draw
Dudley Walker, our announcer was in his usual great voice keeping us on track too. We were fortunate to have our all American High Jumper, Nikki Manson in attendance , presenting with Dudley the AAA Standards certificates identified at speed by Helen and Steve Nairne. Alan Stewart provided photographs and the helpful Arena staff under Eilidh ensured a smooth operation. In Ben Paul, we had the best Results Runner ever, aided when not competing by Murray Fotheringham. There were many others who contributed on the day, too many to mention, but grateful thanks to all those not named individually for helping us convene a successful Club Championships. Thanks also to Ross Slater at Minuteman Press for sponsoring the Programme and to Beatrice Mayer for arranging that.
