U11 Boys. Craig Shennan, Calan Chong and Jack Wallace left no room for doubt with a 1/2/3 in that Race and in fact Giffnock took 8 of the top 10 places in that race with many of the new U11s also demonstrating that they will be competing for the top places next year . The U11 Girls with Katy Donnelly in 2nd Place, Erin McKay in 5th and Hazel O’Donoghue in 6th enjoyed their run in the sun at the Battery Park to take the Gold Team Title.
Spectators of the U13 Boys Race witnessed a combative performance by Hugh Shiels to also take 1st place and lead his teammates to the third Team Title of the day with Aaron McGillivray 4th and Mark McInnes 9th in support.
U13s Girls with another 1/2/3 saw Hannah Ryding forging ahead to take the Gold individual, followed home by Isla Scott and Kate Paul to earn Team title No 4

SENIOR REPORT from Sarah Smith

A team of three women and six men from Giffnock gathered in Battery Park in Greenock for the Renfrewshire Road Race Championships 5 miler. Two brave individuals (Ted Gourley and Michael Hampson ) had also competed in the Masters XC in Kilmarnock the day before.

This race has a reputation for bad weather with heavy rain and puddles resulting in a number of injuries two years ago, however there was no sign of any of this and we were greeted by sunshine and blue skies.

In the women’s race Nicola McBeath came an excellent 17th with Anne Williamson and Sarah Smith coming in just 26 seconds apart in 48th and 49th places.

In the men’s race Ted Gourley won his M55 age category and came 39th overall. Nicholas Boyle and David Ross came in together in 27th and 28th, with Jordan Orr and Derren Thomson 10 seconds apart in 49th and 50th with Michael Hampson 56th.
