Scottish selection for Hillrunners

Lynn and Charlotte Mc Kenna took part in the Scottish Trials at Colsnaur in the Ochils  Sunday 28th August  and performed so well [1st &2nd Place ]they gained automatic selection for Scotland in the forthcoming Hill Running Home International  at Keswick on 17th September . Congratulations to Lynn and Charlotte.

As Peter Jardine from Scottish Athletics reports “It is an uphill only event and the Scottish trial was thus uphill only in order to help prepare the athletes.

Reports below & Photos from proud dad Frank McKenna. Preparation for Lynn included running the day before with other Club Athletes at the National Trail race at Strathmiglo in Fife.

Lynn and Charlotte competed in the Under 17 Scotland trial for the Junior Home International Hill race – which will be held at Keswick on September 17th. The first two finishers in the race would secure automatic selection for the two of the four Scotland team places available. This was only their second hill race, so running against some experienced hill runners, including National champion Grace Whelan from Moray was potentially a daunting prospect. However, on the day both girls ran strongly, Charlotte leading the race from early on, and Lynn moving through the field to eventually take over the lead from Charlotte towards the final third of the race. Both girls managed to hold on to the lead before finishing strongly on the particularly steep final ascent. Lynn finished in first place, with Charlotte 6 seconds behind in second place. Both have now booked a place in the Scotland team for the 17th.

Saturday 27th

Lynn competed in the National trail race championship which was held in Strathmiglo, Fife at the Falkland estate. It was a 5K two lap course with a very steep uphill and downhill section on each lap. She came first in the under 17 girls category.
