Report by Andy Munro
Renfrewshire AAA XC at Gourock put our young athletes to the test with very undulating & muddy course and classic Tail o’ the Bank weather (wind, rain). However the they met the challenge magnificently starting with the U11 boys who bagged a team silver (Callum Dick, Max McKie & Jacob Stuffins). Callum also picked up an impressive individual bronze.
Next up was the U11 girls race, where Sarah McNulty led from start to finish, holding off a late surge from Inverclyde athlete Lexi Bremner to win gold. Beatrice Nairne & Millie Boothman completed a three girl team that took team bronze.
Our U13 boys were terrific with Oliver Bryers 1st, Oliver McDonald 2nd & James Mowat 4th taking team gold in impressive style. Incidentally the Inverclyde lad in 3rd was also called Oliver! That name was shouted a lot during this race!
No individual podiums for our U13 girls but a team bronze was claimed by the trio of Lauren MacPherson, Isla Ross & Ella McWilliams – well done girls.
Medal success also for Kirsten O’Donoghue with silver in the U17 girls race.
All in all a great day in some typically west of Scotland winter conditions! Well done everyone who took part or helped out.
Some of the youngsters stuck around to roar our Seniors to success (helped by the fact that their lift home had to change out a flat tyre)!!
