Success for Seniors at National XC Relays

“Success for Senior Women at National XC Relays

It was an impressive outing for the seniors in Cumbernauld for the National Short Course XC Relays.

They came out in fine numbers with a total of nine teams gathering at the start line. The senior women made up three of those with the men making up six, two of which were vet teams.

The senior women’s race was the first port of call for the seniors and the ladies really set the bar high for the rest of the day. Giffnock’s A team consisting of Rhona Mowatt, Yvonne McNairn, Katy Brown and Erin Wallace stormed their way to a national medal taking bronze in their race. This is the first time that we have had a senior women’s team on the podium since 2006 and 2007 when we took the Bronze two years running . This was a major achievement for our ladies – massive congratulations!

The gun for the male race followed shortly after the ladies triumph with the final six senior teams raring to go at the line. Again, encouraging performances followed for Giffnock with our A team finishing in a respectable sixteenth through Callum Young, Hamish Armitt, Nikolai Gajic and Ben Shaw. The vets also continued their fine form narrowingly missing out on a medal position coming fifth.

The day was finished in traditional fashion with more great baking from Ollie Traynor! Plenty choices for our fifty-four runners who crossed the line and their coaches.
