Report from Croy Thomson
KIRKCALDY was the home of linoleum, and Giffnock North have a flair for running … so it’s only right that we amassed a pile of medals at the National Short Course Championships today.
Under 15 lads Reuben Macdonald, Cameron Deverill and Cameron Green claimed team gold over the undulating, soggy 2k course, with Reuben landing individual silver in a hard-fought finish. The U15 girls Isla Scott, Esme Dougall and Ella McGregor put in a big shift, again over 2k but had to settle for 10th in a race notable for a helter-skelter no mercy start.
Over 3k, the Under 17 girls were led home by Julia Cash in second overall, with Zoe Flower and Kate Richardson joining her atop the podium for gold. U17 boys were 7th, Harris Paterson heading Jacob Luc and Charlie Tompkinson. Harris’s individual bronze is the first medal the club has ever won in this category, team or individual.
Giffnock’s senior ladies were a good fourth over 4k. Erin Wallace, Katy Brown, Yvonne McNairn and Jill Smyllie did the damage.  Senior men’s results were unavailable as your ‘umble scribe dashed for the charabanc home.
So, here’s to a day very fine-o in the home of lino. Thanks to all who raced, supported, tented, untented, coached, and generally helped create another memorable day in the sun.
