ALYSON BELL STARS at the AWARDS NIGHT

What a great time was had at the Awards Night!
Over 100 athletes, parents and coaches celebrated another great year for the club  on Saturday.
The awards were Introduced by our usual outstanding MC, Dudley Walker assisted by Club President Billy Glasgow; and it was a great privilege and honour to have our own Alyson Bell presenting the awards. It was a great way to celebrate the successful year she has had.  She is the excellent role model we have come to expect and appreciate at Giffnock North AC.

First up, medallists from the August Club Championships received their medals – wooden ones organised by Anne Stewart.

Next, athletes who won national titles received commemorative certificates.  This year we have had the highest ever number of national title winners across Track and Field, Cross Country and Road Racing. 31 athletes won 39 Titles.  Masters titles awards will be presented later in the year.

Finally, there were the age group awards from U13 to Senior.  The task of deciding who should receive these awards gets harder each year!  On occasions,  it feels we have to miss out outstanding candidates who achieved really excellent performances but just missed out.

We managed to miss Alex Clark’s National Title at U15 Sprints. Apologies to Alex ! He is another athlete who had an outstanding year having only recently started in athletics.Don’t worry we know who you all  are.
We also recognise the contribution of every single squad member to development and improvement.   Indeed, Alyson consistently acknowledges how the support of her training group has supported her progress from a successful junior athlete to the World Championships this year as part of the Senior Women’s Sprint Relay Squad.

The Awards Night was a chance to reflect on the progress of Giffnock North in our 40th Anniversary Year, from a Senior only endurance club to the entity we are today – with enormous achievements across all age groups and disciplines including athletes competing in the World Championships – Alyson and Neil Gourley – Scottish record holders  and athletes highly ranked in the All Time performance lists.  We hope these achievements will continue to inspire all our athletes.
