Giffnock North @ Great Scottish Run

Storm Amy sadly saw the cancellation on the junior races on Saturday 4rth October as part of the AJ Bell Great Glasgow Run series , but several Giffnock North athletes competed in the 10k and Half marathon on Sunday 5th in a decent weather window for running.

First off were the 10k runners, with Calum Dick finishing in a tremendous 10th place with a time of 31.54. Right behind was Glen Griffiths in a superb PB time of 32.02. Both lads have been training hard and it shows! Ally Stables was next across the line from the club, with Matthew Hill only a minute behind.

For the girls Saoirse McNulty finished in 37.29, closely followed by April Macaulay in 37.44. This time for her debut 10k eclipses her mother’s PB by around a minute – wonder how that conversation over dinner went??? Lucy Mcghie, Rachel Hill, Iona Hubbard and Eve Wilkinson also had strong runs, as did others from the senior section.

The flagship half marathon race was run over a slightly altered course this year, starting at the top of St Vincent St rather than George Square, meaning the task was not to go off too fast on a the downhill first mile or so.

Ross O’ Brien made a convincing return to competing this side of the Atlantic with a superb 1.12 finishing time. Scott Goldie was next to cross the line in 1.18 with a Nick Boyle just missing his 1.20 target – next time Nick! Emma Creasey continued her great form ( when does Emma not run well?) with a time of 1.22 followed by Hannah Nisbet in a new PB of 1.31. Great  to see Scott Kelman running even better after major surgery last year in a time of 1.38 too. Numerous other Giffnock North athletes pushed themselves to new heights with good times across the board.

The pictures above show Glen Griffiths & Calum Dick and April Macauley.

Well done everyone who competed in club colours – always proud to see the Giffnock North vest in a home race.
