As we turn the page to 2026, we celebrate a truly landmark year for Giffnock North. In 2025, our athletes delivered outstanding performances across every discipline and age group, from local cross-country meets to global championships showcasing the depth of talent, commitment, and community spirit that defines our club.
This year also marked a historic transition in leadership, as Billy Glasgow stepped down after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Under Billy’s stewardship, Giffnock North grew into Scotland’s largest athletics club, a recognised powerhouse that champions inclusivity and excellence. We were proud to honour Billy as our Honorary Life President. Likewise, Anne Stewart’s remarkable four decades of coaching and officiating were celebrated with Scottish Athletics awarding her Honorary Life Membership.
On the track and field, Neil Gourley led by example with a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships, a UK record over 1000m at the Keely Klassic, and his role as British team captain. Erin Wallace delivered a stellar season, setting a meeting record in Paris, qualifying for the Commonwealth Games, and moving to second on Scotland’s all-time 1500m list. Alyson Bell emerged as a sprint sensation, breaking Scottish records in the 60m and 200m indoors, captaining Scotland at the LIA meet, and earning GB U23 selection for the European Championships. Alessandro Schenini dominated the long jump with a Scottish record and British title, while Murray Fotheringham and Angus Rennie impressed in jumps and hurdles. Across age groups, rising stars like Louie Muir, April MacAuley, Aaron Reid, and Calum Dick earned Scotland and SIAB selections, while our relay squads and U13 Superteams claimed national titles, reinforcing Giffnock North’s strength in depth.
As we look ahead, 2026 promises even greater success on the track, in the field, on the road, and across the country trails. Together, we will continue to nurture talent, foster community, and compete with distinction. Thank you to our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters for making Giffnock North the vibrant club it is.
Here’s to an exciting year ahead, let’s make 2026 unforgettable!
Happy new year from the Trustees of GNAC.
