Pitreavie AAC hosted the first Jumps Grand Prix of the season. 9 high jumpers, 3 long jumpers and a first time triple jumper set off with their GNAC vests to enjoy the first official competition of the summer season. The sun broke through in time for the start of the event and nerves were in plentiful supply. First to compete were Holly Slater and Angus Weir at the long jump pit. Both athletes set the tone for the day by extending their PB’s 4.59 and 4.54 respectively. It made a very early start to the day worthwhile. A great start to the season for both of them Well Done!
Next to compete was pool 2 in the high jump where GNAC vests were in abundance. Although some of the athletes were disappointed with their results, the coaches were delighted to see all of them jumping within a cm of their all time PB’s.
Cara Weir, Cara Slater, Maisie Ling, Neilla McIntyre and Isla Ross all had fantastic attempts at setting new PB’s, so roll on the next competition. One athlete from this pool left the competition with a new PB. Ryan Davie cleared 1.59, raising his PB by 5cm’s and was delighted to get the chance to ring the PB bell! Ryan then moved over to compete in triple jump for the first time and guaranteed himself another PB on the day. His best jump was 9.79m (He was pleased).
In the afternoon, the next high jump pool saw 3 GNAC athletes who all got the chance to ring the PB bell…..some more than once!!! Noah McLeod was the highest performing U13 on the day with a fantastic clearance at 1.39. The two girls, Caitlin McGeachy and Grace McKenzie went one better with both clearing 1.44 and giving their confidence a real boost. The coaches are delighted for you both.
Unfortunately due to the timetable of the event, Kate Seenan was left to compete in the long jump at the end of the day. Kate was desperately unlucky to jump within 5cm’s of her PB however the jumps coaches know that she will smash it soon.
A huge thanks to some very supportive parents who got out their beds very early on a bank holiday
Saturday morning.
