The Muller UK Athletics Championships took place in Manchester over the weekend, 24th-26th July, with six Giffnock athletes flying the flag for thr club.
Neil Gourley, looking for World Championships qualification, came up with he goods in the 1500m, taking the silver medal in an exciting finish over the the last 100 metres. It was a Scots 1-2-3, Jake Wightman taking the title and Josh Kerr in third place. Neil’s time was 3.40.38. Many congratulations to Neil and all the best for the rest of the season.
Also on the podium was high jumper David Smith. David also took the silver medal with a clearance of 2.18m in very windy conditions. The event was won by Joel Clarke-Khan, of Thames Valley Harriers with a jump of 2.21m.
Kyle Alexander was 5th in his heat of the 400m in a time of 47.84. Finlay Waugh was 5th in his heat of the 400m blown round the track by a 5.9 m/s wind to a time of 21.13, Alessandro Scheninni was placed 7th in the long Jump with 7.43m.
Sprinter Alyson Bell had some high class company in the 100m. Alyson qualified for the semi-finals from her heat in second place behind the eventual champion Daryl Neita. Alyson clocked 11.60. Alyson was 6th in the semi improving her time to 11.59.
