Report on Middle Distance Athletes by Dudley Walker

A Day …..or two, at the Races

The Emirates Indoor Arena,on Tuesday and Wednesday, provided two days of quality athletics at the Scottish Schools  Indoor Athletics Championships.

Many of Giffnock North’s endurance athletes were chasing PBs and medals over the two days. The age group format had been changed to reflect Scottish Athletics U/13/15/17  age groups ,which was certainly a big improvement on the previous two age group format.

As a club we did pretty well with many of our athletes going forward to finals, winning medals and achieving PBs.

Calum Dick set the ball rolling on Tuesday with a win in the U/15 800m in what is the fastest time in the UK so far this season….2:01.31.And the following day was denied gold in a thrilling dual with Angus Wilkinson, who set a new Championship best time. Calum’s time of 4.05 however secured the indoor club record previously 4.22

In the U/17B final we had a 1,2,3 in the shape of Thomas Reay,Oliver MacDonald and Tristan Robin.All 3 had vastly improved PBs.

In the Under 20, 800m final Jordan Phillips took bronze.

Scarlett Wilson became our other double medal winner when she won bronze in the Under 17,800m and the 1500m.

Sarah McNulty took a fine silver in the 800m.

Cameron Deverill timed his finish in the Under 20,1500m to perfection when he outsprinted his training partner Jamie Phillips to take the title in a time of 3:54.19.

Well done to everyone who competed in these championships….the Power of Ten will soon be bulging with the superb
